The NYC Department of Finance adopted proposed rules for new construction and major renovations this week, paving the path forward for #cpace to become fully operational in New York City.

Below are a few key takeaways, along with a link to the finally adopted rule in the comments section:

1) 100% Electric. Buildings must be “Low Carbon,” meaning it is designed, engineered, developed, constructed, operated, and maintained as a 100% electric building. Exceptions include but aren’t limited to gas stoves for F&B and backup generators for loss of power.

2) New Construction. “New Construction” refers to projects that need a new building permit as per section 28-105.2 of the Administrative Code. However, work under section 28-101.4.5 doesn’t qualify as New Construction

3) Major Renovation. “Major Renovation” refers to construction projects in existing buildings that expand the floor surface area by over 110% and meet the Program Guidelines’ criteria.
